"The present World Cup competition is the 11th since it began in 1930. During this time only a break between 1938 and 1950 has interrupted the series because of World War 2.

Up to the last tournament in West Germany in 1974 there had been a total of 45 different countries reaching the final stages and of this number only five had managed to win the World Cup.

Among the current sixteen finalists there are tow more teams who have never previously reached the ultimate stages: Iran and Tunisia who thus become the 46th and 47th to achieve this honour.

Brazil has the best record in the competition having won it three times in 1958, 1962 and 1970. Italy, Uruguay and West Germany have each won it twice. The Italians' successes came in pre-war years of 1934 and 1938, while Uruguay won the first tournament in 1930 and again in 1950. England are the fifth country to have been triumphant and of course were the winners in 1966. But England and Uruguay have not qualified for the 1978 finals."

FKS Argentina 78 Sticker Packet

The FKS Picture Stamp Albums differ slightly from the traditional sticker album that the rest of the site covers. The FKS albums mostly feature a 'free-stick' approach, where you get a card of the player, then manually glue the top edge of the back of the player card into your album. The result is that you end up with a page of 'flappy' cards, with player biographies hiding beneath the stuck-in card. Lift up the bottom half of the player and you find the brief biography and a few vital stats.

For the bargain price of 10p, you could have been an owner of the FKS Argentina 78 Picture Stamp Album. This edition, as you can guess from the album's title, looks at the nations and players in the 1978 World Cup Finals. The FKS Argentina 78 album is partially black and white, with some full colour pages. After a page with a giant logo, and an introductory text page, Argentina are the first team to appear. The album moves through the teams alphabetically (using the teams native names), with no break between them. When one team finishes part-way across a page then next team carries straight on afterward. All the football stickers / stamps are arranged in neat rows of up to 4 per page, interspersed with colour photographs from international matches.

The inside back cover shows the 1978 World Cup Qualifying Competition Results.
