"As England’s Head Coach, it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Merlin Official England World Cup Sticker Collection for 2002. It was massive honour to be appointed to such a prestigious honour position in the world game and it is with great pride that I take the England squad to Japan and Korea for the biggest football event in the world.

'Ato, Kaz and Nik' the FIFA World Cup 2002 MascotsSince taking change of the squad, I have been very impressed by the high standard of football I’ve seen. In the 5-1 victory against Germany during World Cup qualifications the team showed its huge potential and I am confident that we can continue to compete at the highest level.

Much has been written about the challenge we face in Group F and, though Sweden, Argentina and Nigeria will provide tough opposition, England are formidable opponents too and more than capable of rising to the challenge. With continued support of the fans and the high quality players available for selection in my final squad, I firmly believe that England are capable of making a very positive impression in the Finals.

The tournament promises to be a spectacular event and the Merlin Official England World Cup Sticker Collection contains everything you need to guide you through it. I hope that you enjoy learning all about the players and competing nations and thank you for giving Team England your support. Knowing you are behind us all the way is hugely encouraging."

- Sven-Goran Eriksson, England Head Coach

Merlin England 2002 Sticker PacketSven kicks off Merlin's England 2002 Official World Cup Sticker Collection with his luke-warm introduction, stating England are “capable of making a positive impression on the finals”. Hardly a confident statement! None the less England went on to reach the quarter finals, where we lost 2-1 to the eventual tournament winners Brazil.

Sven gets an introduction, with stickers of the England badge and kits, then the following pages begin to introduce the England squad. David Platt Merlin England 2002 No.72then introduces the England Under 21’s team, with 12 half stickers. A few pages follow with text and football stickers detailing ‘The Road to Japan/Korea’, with qualifications results and final standings, and a special double-spread remembering  the 5-1 victory over Germany. 15 pages then go in to detail on each of the squad members, some getting a page to themselves, and others sharing a page. ‘The Lego Superstar Masterclass’ highlight 5 of the most talented players from around the globe and then the venues page shows the stadiums and maps before the album moves on to the groups

Each country is allocated their own page, with the players split into half-stickers. Also included on the country pages are a star player with a brief summary box, stats on the country and historic performances.
