The Panini 1997 1st Division Official Sticker Collection picks up from where the Football League '96 album left off last year. This albums comes in a period where Panini were still searching for a workable formula in light of the Premier League rights going to Topps/Merlin. This is why you'll see a confused and broken approach to their football sticker albums during this time, both in terms of the content, titles and partnerships. Unfortunately, Panini weren't able to compete with Merlin's Premier League sticker albums, so these were among the last albums to be produced for domestic English football until several years later, when the 'Championship' albums came out.
This album, as mentioned above, is differently named from the previous 'Football League' collections - the big gold '1st' on the front cover helps to stand it out from others. The inside page shows a contents list, and intro paragraph, which an opening statement on the first page opposite.
The album moves quickly on to the clubs, starting with Barnsley. They're each allocated 3 pages, so we see the club badge, manager photograph and a club history paragraph on the first page, along with 2 squad member football stickers. The facing page has 6 more football stickers with some more facts and figures on the club. The third and final page for each club shows a further 5 football stickers and even more statistics. Each player has some information on them, including their previous clubs.
The second and third division also make a brief appearance, with squad photographs of each team, partway into the album.
