All change this year for the Euro 2016 finals. Instead of the previously familiar Topps logo on an 'England' album, we instead find the Panini knight adorning the front cover of the Panini England Official Sticker Collection 2016! In an unexpected change of fates, it is the Italian group who've been handed the license this time around by the English FA. This is the first time since Euro '96 that Panini have been able to ship an album showing England football players in the full England kit. We'll wait to see what Topps/Merlin chose to release as the tournament in 2016 approaches, and indeed whether Panini also choose to release a more traditional Euro 2016 type album looking at all the clubs to reach the finals in addition to this England-only football sticker collection. Perhaps in their excitement to have received the nod from the FA, Panini thought it best to get something out before they changed their mind!
As mentioned, the album looks solely at England, no other nations feature here, except where they've crossed-swords with the Three Lions during the qualifying matches. The album starts with a shiny logo sticker for the England badge, with Roy Hodgson and Ray Lewington stickers below in the intro text. Other pages at the start of the album include a full squad listing of football stickers, prior to Joe Hart starting off the player pages. 18 players are lucky enough to each get a pair of pages in this football sticker collection, starting with keeper Joe Hart on page 6. The player pages each feature a similar layout of football stickers and stats and features dotted-about on the page. A shiny sticker starts the pages off, then there is also a two part sticker. For the quiz fans, there's an anagram or other quick game on the bottom right.
Interspersed among the player pages are double-spread features including 'England by the Numbers', 'Women's Seniors', 'The Three Lions Awards' and 'England Legends', among others.
Overall, it's a nice breath of fresh air to have an England album from Panini, many collectors would say Panini have the edge over Topps/Merlin in terms of quality and feel. So we've no doubt there are a lot of happy collectors out there at the moment having seen this collection arrive on the shelves.
