"Every so often the soccer scene is set alight by a brilliant new talent - a player with exceptional ability, that sets him apart from the rest and which stamps him out as a start to follow.

A similar thing periodically happens in the world of football publishing - a presentation that is novel, superior to its competitors, and which is certain to capture the imagination of the avid supporter.

And in my view this album – compiled by Panini, the Italian firm that has won an envied reputation throughout Europe for its originality and high quality – ranks as the latest publication to join the elite amongst football publications. In fact, it sets new standards in this sphere.

No effort has been spared to compile an album which, when completed, presents the top teams and star players of Britain in a colourful, informative, unrivalled fashion.

But don’t just take my word for it. Seals of approval have been given by both the English and Scottish Player’s Associations.

Like me, they are proud to endorse such a splendid production.

Panini Football 78 Sticker PacketThe Panini Football 78 Collector’s Album opens with an introduction from Shoot Magazine Editor David Gregory. Mr. Gregory describes the album as setting a new standard in football publications! The opening page presents the F.A. Cup, Scottish Cup, English League Championship and Scottish League Championship trophies as stickers, the F.A. Cup and Scottish Cup are special gold foil stickers. The contents on the first page also tells us that the album contains football stickers for the Football League First Division, Second Division and Scottish League Premier Division.

Panini Football 78 No.13The collection wastes no time, and immediately gets into the clubs, with Arsenal. The first division teams are each given a double-page spread, with the gold shiny badge top left, club info top centre, and team photo sticker top right on the first page. The squad member stickers are arranged consistently throughout this first section, 7 players appear under the badge and team stickers, and a further 8 on the facing page. The players on the second team page are arranged into two rows of 4, with space between the two rows to accommodate short summary paragraphs for each player, including a quick list of vital stats for each.

Wolverhampton Wanderers finish off the First Division section, then the Second Division is arranged very differently. Four clubs to a page, with only the gold badge logo, team info and team photo sticker. Following on from this section is the Scottish League Premier Division. These clubs are arranged identically to the English First Division at the beginning of the album.

The inside back page contains a summary of ‘Winners and Losers’ from the 1976-77 football season, listing winners, runners up and relegated teams from the various domestic and European cups and leagues. It also lists the Footballer of the Year (Emlyn Hughes) and PFA Players of the Year.
