"Vicente del Bosque's Real Madrid CF outclassed Valencia CF in Paris as an all-Spanish UEFA Champions League final was settled by goals from Fernando Morientes, Steve McManaman and a youthful Raúl González.

They used to say Spain was different. Well, it certainly gave novelty value to the 1999/2000 season with the appearance of two Primera División clubs in the UEFA Champions League final - the first time domestic rivals had contested the top prize. Yet given the inflated nature of the competition (the eight autumn groups of four now fed into a spring group stage involving 16 teams) neither Real Madrid CF nor Valencia CF were Spanish champions.

That honour had gone to FC Barcelona, a third team to carry the Iberian challenge into the quarter-finals. Here the Catalan side won a thrilling tie against Chelsea FC 6-4 on aggregate; Valencia hammered S.S. Lazio 5-2 at Mestalla before a 1-0 Rome reverse; while Madrid defeated holders Manchester United FC 3-2 with all five goals coming at Old Trafford."

Panini Champions League 2000 Sticker PacketThe start of a new era in Panini football stickers! The year 2000 saw Panini introduce the first sticker collection for the UEFA Champions League, with each club from the league to be found between it's pages. This first edition of the Panini UEFA Champions League Official Sticker Collection 1999-2000 was  ̶  as the majority of Panini's football sticker albums tend to be  ̶  fairly straigh-laced. There's no faff or fanfare here, not even any shiny stickers, just football stickers and more football stickers.

Panini Champions League 2000 Sticker Back No.26The opening page shows the contents and Roll of Honour for previous league seasons, no logo, football or trophy stickers, as appear in later editions. Over the page is the programme, laying out the various qualifying and group stages leading right up to the final. You've got the opportunity here to fill in the scores and winners if you choose.

The album starts properly on page 4, Lazio kick off in 1999-2000, a landscape team photo sits top right, with 7 squad football stickers arranged below it.  There is also a brief bit of team related information above the team photo sticker. The facing page displays a further 9 football stickers.

That's the way the album continues until all the teams are all covered!
