"FC Bayern München won Europe's top club competition for the first time in 25 years, with cool heads in the penalty shootout ensuring that Ottmar Hitzfeld's side got the better of Valencia CF, runners-up for a second season in a row.

Twenty-five years on from their last European Champion Clubs' Cup success, FC Bayern München were at it again, lifting the trophy for a fourth time after a penalties win over Valencia CF.

UEFA had billed the Milan final as a 'footballing opera' in the city of La Scala - and paying customers certainly got value for money from a match of Wagnerian length. While captains Gaizka Mendieta and Stefan Effenberg traded spot-kicks in normal time, goalkeeper Oliver Kahn held on to one from Mauricio Pellegrino at the end of extra time to secure victory."

Panini Champions League 2001 Sticker PacketThe 2000-2001 edition is only Panini's second year with a Champions League football album, following on from last year's 1999-2000 first edition. The two albums (and also the 3rd in the series, 2001-2002) are peas from the same pod, with very little to tell them apart except for the dates of the season hiding in the corner! The same grey design is used across them all, with very little variation (if any) on the layout inside.

As with last year's, the opening page of the Panini UEFA Champions League Official Sticker Collection 2000-2001 shows a simple contents list and the 'Roll of Honour' of previous tournament winners, whilst over the page we see the league programme, with spaces to fill in scores and follow teams to the final.

The football stickers start on page 4, with Real Madrid. Each team shows a small bio box in the top left, alongside the team photo sticker to the right. Football stickers for the squad members are below and opposite, with 6 on the bottom of the left page and 12 opposite on the second page. This format continues through to the completion of the album.
