"Zinédine Zidane's superb goal at Hampden Park gave Real Madrid CF a 2-1 victory over Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the Spanish club's centenary year, but the German side's brave battle to the final was almost as memorable.

Seventy-two teams. One hundred and ninety-seven games. Ten months. One winner. The long and winding road to Glasgow took its toll. But for Real Madrid CF the journey was well worth the while. The reward for Vicente del Bosque's men was a third UEFA Champions League success, adding to their wins in 1998 and 2000. Madrid progressed through the first group stage with AS Roma as bridesmaid, and again set the pace during the second group stage, becoming the first team into the last eight."

Panini Champions League 2002 Sticker Packet

The Panini UEFA Champions League Official Sticker Collection 2001-2002 rounds off a series of 3 football sticker albums. There was a gap of several years before this particular product line made it back into the Panini range in 2006. This third instalment is very similar in look and style to the 2000 and 2001 editions.

Opening the cover, the 2002 edition of the Champions League sticker album shows an album key on the inside front cover, explaining abbreviations and symbols. The first page contains the contents list and a Roll of Honour detailing previous winners of the league. The next pair of pages examine the league programme with the timeline of matches right though to the finals in May of 2002.

Just like in the previous year's collection, the football stickers start on page 4, with Real Madrid. A team photo sticker features first, with a few statistics on the club including historic performance records and manager names. Football stickers for the squad members are below and opposite, with 6 on the left page and 12 opposite on the second page. This format continues through to the completion of the album.

The last page shows the 'All-Time Rankings of the Clubs', which shows top-tens of league wins, coaches with the most wins, most successful countries and players to have won the most winners medals.
