"1970 - For the first time the FIFA World Cup™ was broadcast in colour around the globe and tens of millions watched spellbound as Brazil brought added brilliance to the spectacle with a glorious exhibition of attacking football that deservedly earned them a third world crown.

1974 - This was the tournament of Total Football, a showcase for the majestic talents of Johan Cruyff and Franz Beckenbauer, who shone in the spotlight vacated by Pele, leading their respective Dutch and West German sides through to a Final showdown in Munich on 7 July 1974.

1978 - Losing finalists at the very first FIFA World Cup™, Argentina's footballers reached the pinnacle on home soil 48 years later, propelled by the goals of Golden Shoe winner Mario Kempes and the fervour of their impassioned followers, whose snowstorms of shredded blue and white paper, swirling inside the stadiums in Buenos Aires and Rosario, offered a defining image.

1982 - Italy became world champions for the third time in 1982, their triumph on Spanish soil made memorable by the scoring feats of six-goal striker Paolo Rossi and an iconic celebration by Marco Tardelli.

1986 - Mexico became the first country to stage the FIFA World Cup™ finals for a second time when football's greatest show returned to the site of Brazil's 1970 triumph, but this time it was Argentina who shrugged off the heat and high altitude to emerge victorious, inspired by their captain Diego Maradona who dominated the tournament in a way that arguably only Pele had done before.

1990 - West Germany lifted the FIFA World Cup™ for the third time in 1990 as they avenged their Final defeat by Argentina four years earlier, overcoming the holders 1-0 in Rome. Their victory was a real triumph for Franz Beckenbauer, who became only the second man to win the world crown as first a player and then a coach."

Panini World Cup Story 1990 Sticker Packet

This album is an interesting one! The Panini World Cup Story sticker album was released in 1990 and looks back through each of the FIFA World Cup tournaments from 1970 through to 1990. It re-releases stickers from each edition of the Panini World Cup sticker album, with the collection divided into sections containing the two teams that made the final of the tournament in each year.

The front cover contains the roll of honour we see in most Panini football tournament sticker albums, however in this edition the list is split half-way where the cup changed from the Rimet Cup in 1970 to the FIFA World Cup in 1974 - appropriately, sticker one and sticker two are these two trophies respectively. Over the page the album jumps back Panini World Cup Story 1990 Sticker Back No.140to the very first World Cup Tournament in 1930, then continues through the teams that have won the final in the intervening years. Each team gets a poster sticker and a team photo sticker, with a brief summary of the tournament results in the middle of the page. In the latter years, some of the team photo stickers are replaced with team badges.

The remainder of the Panini World Cup Story football sticker album is arranged chronologically, with two teams that each made the final for each tournament in turn. Each team is spread over two pages with 16 squad football stickers and a team photo sticker. The stickers are a replica of the ones produced in the original Panini sticker albums for that year.

The final page contains a summary of the scores and results of each of the World Cup tournaments for the period covered by the album.
